Post-Comment Malaise

My supervisor sent back comments on the chapter I sent off last week. It's kind of scary when the email starts with "Don't freak out." The comments are all great and will lead to a productive discussion with solid argumentation, but I wonder if I've perhaps written 40 pages of nothing. Am I an academic Seinfeld with a chapter about nothing? I'm not sure if I've even answered the all important "So what?" question.

After spending so long outlining and drafting it's difficult to see what is relevant and superfluous or simply banal and counterproductive. In four and a half years in this programme my skin has thickened significantly, but I still get bruised on occasion.
