After spending so long outlining and drafting it's difficult to see what is relevant and superfluous or simply banal and counterproductive. In four and a half years in this programme my skin has thickened significantly, but I still get bruised on occasion.

My supervisor sent back comments on the chapter I sent off last week. It's kind of scary when the email starts with "Don't freak out." The comments are all great and will lead to a productive discussion with solid argumentation, but I wonder if I've perhaps written 40 pages of nothing. Am I an academic Seinfeld with a chapter about nothing? I'm not sure if I've even answered the all important "So what?" question.
