There must be a law governing this

I shouldn't complain since it's my job, but: Why do I bother busting my hump to mark papers to get them back to my students early when they don't come to pick them up in my very-well-advertised extra office hours?

Last week they crowed about getting their papers back so they can make changes to their presentations. Since 9am, no one has shown up [Correction: one student literally just came to pick up a paper, 10:23am].

Is there some kind of pedagogical law that governs this sort of thing? The louder a group of students demand that assignments be handed back early, the less likely they will be to pick them up early?

Update: Four students showed up to pick up their papers as soon as I finished this post. There is a God and he reads blogs.
