I met with Nancy tonight to discuss some dissertation ideas. It was our first meeting after my area exam. My mind has churned and ruminated based on comments from that afternoon and I wanted to discuss these thoughts before proceeding.
Over the course of an hour and a half we jettisoned the Glenn Gould component as a distinct chapter, relegating it to a couple of pages in my first chapter, but also spun it off as a lengthy CanCon article instead. Getting rid of the Gould content complicated the validity of the authorship chapter, which was to be quite substantial. The meeting raised more questions than it answered, but the suggestion to write the dissertation in modules and assemble with connective tissues after the fact seems much more accessible than working on a whole chapter in one go.
First goal: Write my introduction 'road map.'
